Title

Unit Brick & Tile Company

Description

This photograph by Arthur S. Greene is of the Unit Brick & Tile Company, which was located east of Union Street and south of the LIRR tracks in Port Jefferson Station. The plant opened in 1910 and manufactured U-shaped, concrete blocks made of sand, gravel and Portland cement. U-shaped blocks were used to allow the construction of bond beams or lintel assemblies. This was vital to the building of secure structures. The Factory closed in 1916 and the land on which it once stood is now a state Department of Transportation maintenance yard.
